I don’t know about you, but I love the idea of a homemade lotion bar and I hate the idea of holding it. It melts in my hand and I just can’t stand the texture. I know, I know…I end up rubbing the lotion into my skin with my hands anyway, but it just drives me nuts!
Introducing…the lotion stick. Why not just fill an old deodorant container (or new one, if you’re fancy like that) and use that to spread the lotion onto your skin? Why not, I ask you?
It’s been done, and it’s amazing! I love adding different essential oils to the recipe and making each stick just a little bit different. Plus, it’s super easy!
Follow the recipe below for no melt-in-your-hands lotion sticks.
Empty deodorant container
4 tsp each shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax
8 drops essential oil
Melt the shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax in a double boiler, stirring to mix ingredients together. Once melted, remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes. Add 5-10 drops of essential oil (see below for different combinations/recommendations!). Stir and pour into your deodorant container. Allow to harden and then lotion away!
This recipe is really nice because it stays hardened. You could easily carry it in your purse and not have to worry about it melting all over the place! In colder weather, just hold it to your skin a little longer to allow the ingredients to soften.
